A young man, completely alone, clinging to a last piece of wreckage that had once been his ship, awash in an uncaring sea, yearning and straining for the safety of the distant coastline -- perhaps home? -- and the enticing but unexplained source of light there, threatened by the approaching storm and impeded by the overwhelming wind that is blowing him even farther out to sea.

One of my very rare forays into male figures, inspired by the dramatic male figures of the Renaissance masters and by the classical paintings "Christ in the Storm on the Sea of Galilee" by Rijn van Rembrandt and "The Raft of the Medusa" by Théodore Géricault, which hangs in the Louvre.

Lost at Sea, like another male nude drawing of mine, Fear, compellingly captures a primal human emotion.
